Laboratory Facilities

The Protein Microarray and Molecular Characterization Laboratory houses 5 laser capture microdissection systems, 3 robotic arrayers and 3 robotic autostainers utilized to generate protein arrays for analysis of tissue and cellular samples for biomarker discovery.

The Mass Spectrometry Laboratory uses specialized chromatography, electrophoresis, and cell fractionation systems, combined with high-performance mass spectrometers (LTQ-Orbitrap, Triple Quadrupole, and MALDI- TOF-TOF), to separate and analyze components of tissue, serum and other physiological samples, resulting in protein characterization, identification and biomarker discovery.
The laboratory is equipped with 5 state-of–the-art mass spectrometers that are capable of sequencing and quantitating femtomole levels of biomolecules such as peptides and proteins.

The Nanofabrication Laboratory is equipped to manufacture hydrogel nanoparticles and perform quality control assurance using atomic force microscopy.

The CAP/CLIA Compliant Clinical Proteomics Laboratory, the first in the United States to be dedicated solely to proteomics translational research, operates under the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines to:
• Provide a unique opportunity to assess and evaluate new proteomic technologies under rigorous clinical guidelines
• Accelerate the verification and validation of promising candidate biomarkers in a clinical diagnostic setting
•  Implement unique clinical trials and diagnostic tests
