This course reviews cancer medicine, cancer molecular biology and cancer metastasis. It incorporates basic principles of molecular medicine, including the definition and need for individualized diagnostics and therapeutics. Application of proteomics, genomics and bioinformatics technologies for individualized therapy are discussed.

Biol 301 HIV/AIDS is a synthesis course that reviews different aspects of the HIV/AIDS phenomenon ranging from quickly evolving scientific information about the virus to the history and social impact of the spread of HIV infection. Topics covered include history of the discovery of HIV/AIDS, biological origins of HIV, biological characteristics of HIV, anti-HIV therapy, immunology of HIV/AIDS, opportunistic infections and cancers related to HIV/AIDS, biological indicators for HIV disease, epidemiology and transmission, preventing the transmission of HIV, testing for HIV, prevalence of HIV/AIDS and societal implications of the disease.
